SUBSEQUENT NAME: 30th Transport Group

The 6^th Ferrying Squadron was activated on 7 March 1942 in the USA, and assigned to the 1^st Ferrying Group. It moved immediately to India, settling initially at Mohanbari, Assam, India to start "Hump" operations, flying supplies between Assam and Yunnan to provide much needed supplies to China. During the monsoon season of 1942 (July to September), as Mohanbari's dirt runway was turned into a mud field, the squadron moved to Chabua and stayed there until it was disbanded. The squadron was renamed 6^th Transport Squadron on 29 March 1943.

By now, the squadron had reached such a strength that it was getting to group size. To reflect his, on 22 June 1943, most of its men and equipment moved from Chabua back to Mohanbari, where they formed the 30^th Transport Group. The actual 6^th Transport Squadron kept on operating until 1 December 1943.
