Operator History

Atlanta Airways was one of the many companies used by infamous adventurer Hank Wharton to conduct his business. Atlanta may not have been a US-registered company, it may not really have had a proper operating certificate, actually it may even be a phony company. In any case, Atlanta Airways secured a contract from late 1963 to early 1964 to work for Lufthansa Cargo Services with three leased Commandos.

Atlanta Airways also had a contract to fly the New York Times from Paris to Frankfurt daily, returning from Frankfurt to Paris with the US servicemen newspaper Stars & Stripes.

There is no information as to whether Atlanta Airways was used in any of Wharton's subsequent ventures, which involved smuggling weapons into various African countries. Wharton later used the North American Aircraft Trading Corporation for these operations.
