Operator History

Founded in 1947 in Miami, FL by company president L. B. Smith, it quickly became one of the foremost aircraft conversion, overhaul and modification centers in the United States. Their most famous conversion was the Curtiss C-46 Commando which became the Smith Super 46C. Smith also offered civilian conversions for ex-military Douglas A-26 Invaders (Smith Tempo II) and Fairchild C-82 Packets. They also did executive aircraft interiors for many types from the Douglas DC3 to the Lockheed JetStar.

L. B. Smith was closely associated with a similar company called Aerodex Inc., which was a CAA approved aircraft repair station.

L. B. Smith went into liquidation around 1963.
