Operator History

Meteor Air Transport was formed at Teterboro, NJ in 1946 by Oscar L. Morrow and Richard M. Ludlow. It began service with low fare irregular schedules between New York and Detroit. Later, cargo and passenger charters were operated, along with contracts to fly passengers to US destinations, Europe, and other parts of the world. Meteor's fleet reached 12 aircraft in the 1950's, including Douglas C-47s, Douglas C-54s and Commandos. Meteor also diversified in Fixed-Based Operations (FBO) through subsidiary Meteor Aircraft Sales & Service renting aircraft, offering flight training, maintaining aircraft and selling aviation fuel in Teterboro.

In April 1958, business setbacks forced Meteor to borrow money from Metropolitan Air Terminal, which took back liens on 4 company Commandos. Meteor's liabilities far exceed its assets, and soon Metropolitan repossessed the aircraft, thus shutting down Meteor's operation.
