24 August 1944

Damaged beyond repair 5 miles southeast of Yupanga, Burma in a crash following an engine failure.

[That location cannot be found anywhere. BAAA interprets it as “Panga”, near Kwanhlar in south Burma, yet that was too deep into Japanese territory back in August 1944. It could be “Pang War”, a pass at the Burma-China border on Route Easy, recently made available following the fall of Myitkyina in May 1944.]

Pilot: Wilford W. Welch

Condemned for salvage.
