The Commando, flying as Chalk 44, was hit by flak near Wesel, Germany as it arrived over the drop zone. It made its run with both fuel tanks on fire, and all paratroopers managed to jump except one who refused for unknown reasons. As it made its turn back towards the west, the plane was hit by intense small arms fre coming from the town of Wesel. All four crew members bailed out before the airplane hit the ground and exploded.

Condemned, missing in action.
