Commando Operations
La Paz El Alto airport serves Bolivia's capital since the 1960's. It was home to an army of small propliner operators who made a living carrying meat from the pastures of the eastern provinces of Beni and Santa Cruz to the capital. Since the 20-year modernization project of Highway 3 linking La Paz to the lowlands of Bolivia was completed in 2006, much of the meat now comes by road transportation and many Bolivian cargo airlines went out of business.
