Commando Operations

Natal Parnamirim was a joint sea and land airport built before World War II for Air France's South Atlantic service. During the war, the airport gained a strategic importance as it was the staging base for all aircraft ferrying across the South Atlantic. All Commandos bound for Africa, the Middle East and India transited through Natal, which was a base for Air Transport Command's South Atlantic Wing.
