Commando Operations
Yangkai was a Yunnan airfield located approximately 50km northeast of Kunming. From March 1943, it was home to several USAAF bombardment groups operating against Japanese targets in the China Seas, Burma, Thailand and occupied French Indochina. Yangkai was also used by the Air Transport Command as a supply hub in South China and also as a terminal for air shipments from India over the "Hump". The Americans closed their facilities at the airfield on 10 September 1945.
