Commando Operations

Ledo airfield was built in 1944 near at the railhead for the Ledo Road which was being built to Myitkyina, Burma. Ledo airfield became one of the main supply points for the "Hump" air transport route to Allied forces in China. The airfield was used by transport units, mainly with C-47s, until the end of January 1946 when it closed, and all infrastructure was later destroyed by the 1950 Assam-Tibet earthquake.
