Commando Operations
Sookerating was built by the RAF in 1942. It was used by the USAAF 10th Air Force as a B-24 Liberator heavy bomber base. The Air Transport Command also used it as an auxiliary field to Chabua. USAAF operations ended on 26 October 1945. After the war, Tezpur was taken over by the Indian Air Force, and developed into a full-fledged air force base in 1959.
