Commando Operations
Robins Field was built as an air depot in 1941-1942. During World War II, Robins operated as a maintenance base for all types of USAAF aircraft, and also trained over 60,000 aircraft mechanics. In the late 1940's, many USAF Commandos were dismantled at Robins.
