Commando Operations

Homestead AAF was home to the Air Transport Command's 2nd Operational Training Unit (2 OTU), and several Commandos were based there for crew training. The base was inactivated in December 1945 after receiving major damage from a hurricane three months earlier. It reopened only in 1955 as a Strategic Air Command base.
