Operator History
Transcontinental was founded in September 1956 with an initial fleet of three Commandos and support from California Eastern Aviation. On 15 March 1958, the airline started a stage of expansion of its domestic services, inaugurating a direct daily flight to Salta with a 46-seat Commando. On 11 November 1958, one of the Commandos was lost in a training flight in Buenos Aires.
Transcontinental's expansion continued, with the acquisition of Lockheed Super Constellations and Britannias and the opening of an international route to the USA with intermediate stops in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
On 30 June 1961, another Commando crashed in Buenos Aires, this time killing 24 onboard. Some time later, Transcontinental ran into a severe financial issues. The company ceased operations in November 1961, and closed down in August 1962.
