Operator History
SAVA was created to support the second Brazilian rubber boom in the Amazon Bassin, following the Washington Accords of 23 May 1942.
A special fund was established for the supply of rubber to the USA, managed by the Rubber Development Corporation and the National Immigration Department. As a result of this financial incentive, the Brazilian government was committed to increase the activities of the recruitment, referral and placement of workers in the rubber plantations of the Amazon.
As a result, on 4 December 1942, a Brazilian Presidential Decree created SAVA, or "Superintendencia de Abastecimento do Vale Amazonico" (Superintendency of Supply of the Amazon Valley) under the Control Committee of the Agreements of Washington. Its mission was to oversee the supply of food and other necessities in the Amazon Valley, in support of the program for the production of rubber and other products, as determined by the Agreements entered into with the Government of the United States of America.
As the Amazon Valley was a vast region with very few roads, SAVA purchased a fleet of aircraft to support its work there, and operated them under the name Servicos Aereos do Vale Amazonico SA.
