Operator History
Congofrigo was the abbreviated name of the Societe Congolaise des Entrepots Frigorifiques Reunis (Congolese company of united refrigirated warehouses). That Belgian company, which was established in 1889 in Congo, was the country's food industry largest player. It was famous for making cheap fresh fish available throughout the country, thanks to a wide truck transportation network. In the 1960's, Congofrigo started using airplanes to carry foodstuff.
In the wave of fraudulous nationalizations that swept through Congo in 1971, lucrative Congofrigo was forcibly sold off to Litho Moboti, a former minister of President Mobutu. It kept on operating for a few years under the name SGA (Societe Generale d'Alimentation).
