Operator History

Strato-Freight was a non-scheduled airline incorporated in January 1947 in Windsor Locks, CT.  It received its AOC on 8 July of the same year and started operating a fleet of three DC3s and a Commando.

On 7 June 1949, the company's Commando crashed at sea near San Juan, PR, killing 53 of the 81 onboard. This accident, which compounded a maintenance error to an overload of the aircraft, was the worst plane crash in history at the time. It triggered Strato-Freight's immediate AOC suspension, followed by its revocation on 8 November 1949.

Commando Operations

December 1947 to June 1949

Strato-Freight operated a single Commando, in a 65-seat passenger configuration.
