Operator History

The US Coast Guard was formed on 28 January 1915 as an offspring of the United States Revenue Cutter Service. As such, it was under the authority of the Department of the Treasury, while transferring to the US Navy during wartime. Its mission is maritime patrol, law enforcement and search & rescue.
