Operator History

The Dallas Modification Center was operated by Lockheed Aircraft to fulfill the needs of the Air Service Command. Like other "Mod Centers" across the US, its aim was to receive newly-produced aircraft from factories, and add the latest modifications to them before they were sent to operational theatres. This system was found less cumbersome than constantly changing the specifications to which aircraft were produced on the manufacturers' chains, which may have slowed down the production process.

Commando Operations

October 1944 to November 1944

Several C-46As part of the Army-for-Navy procurement program produced in Louisville, KY were sent to the Dallas Mod Center in late 1944, right after transferring to the US Navy.
