Operator History
The San Bernardino Air Materiel Area started off as the San Bernardino Air Depot back in 1942. It was one of the USAAF West Coast's aircraft and equipment supply and maintenance centers during and shortly after the war. It was shut down in 1966.
Commando Operations
1945 to February 1949
After the war, several USAAF Commandos which were not transferred to the RFC were stripped of parts and broken up at the San Bernardino Air Depot in 1945. Also, some ZC-46A returned to service in the USAF in 1948 were broken up at the San Bernardino Air Materiel Area in 1948-1949.
