Operator History

Air Transport Command's Alaskan Wing transported aircraft, cargo and personnel between the continental USA and Alaska. Aircraft would converge to RCAF Edmonton, AB and fly on to Ladd AAF, AK. From there, aircraft would either be dispatched to 11th Air Force airfields in Alaska, or handed over to Red Air Force pilots to continue on to Siberia. On 1 July 1944, along with all other ATC wings, the Alaskan Wing was upgraded to Alaskan Division.

Over the course of the war, ATC's Alaskan Wing ferried almost 8,000 aircraft over the ALSIB (Alaska-Siberia) route, often in dreadful weather conditions, in order to supply the Soviet Union with much-needed warplanes.
