The 13th Ferrying Squadron was first activated on 7 March 1942 at Pope Field, NC. Soon thereafter, the squadron moved to Karachi, Sindh, India and to Chabua, Assam, India. There, the squadron was part of the 1st Ferrying (later 1st Transport) Group, 10th Air Force, and later the India-China Wing, Air Transport Command. It was redesignated as the 13th Transport Squadron on 24 March 1943. From 9 August 1943, it seems the squadron was temporarily reassigned to Sookerating, under the 29th Transport Group, before coming back to Chabua and the 1st Transport Group later that year.

The 13th flew air transport missions over the "Hump" into China in support of the 14th Air Force, using the Commando. It was disbanded on 1 December 1943, but its equipment & personnel kept on operating as Station 2 & 6 (Chabua).
