Operator History

The 129th Air Resupply Squadron was established in April 1955 as a new California ANG unit. It was allocated to the Military Air Transport Service (MATS), and equipped with Commandos. Its mission at the time was Psychological Warfare to support USAF unconventional warfare in a guerrilla environment, direct action (commando-type raids), strategic reconnaissance (intelligence gathering), and PSYWAR operations. The Commando was supplemented by the Grumman SA-16 Albatross from 1956, and completely replaced by it in 1963.
