The 64^th Troop Carrier Wing, Medium was activated on 14 July 1952 as part of the 8^th Air Force. It performed airlift and airdrop / airlanding of troops and cargo, routinely and during frequent maneuvers, between 1952 and 1953. It was mainly operating Fairchild C-82 Packets & C-119 Flying Boxcars, however it seems to have operated a few Commandos as will. The wing began phasing down for inactivation in mid-October 1953, at which time tactical operations passed to the 63^rd Troop Carrier Wing. In February 1954, however, the wing began building up again in preparation for an overseas movement, but was inactivated instead on 21 July 1954.
