Operator History

The 64th Troop Carrier Wing, Medium was activated on 14 July 1952 as part of the 8th Air Force. It performed airlift and airdrop / airlanding of troops and cargo, routinely and during frequent maneuvers, between 1952 and 1953. It was mainly operating Fairchild C-82 Packets & C-119 Flying Boxcars, however it seems to have operated a few Commandos as will. The wing began phasing down for inactivation in mid-October 1953, at which time tactical operations passed to the 63rd Troop Carrier Wing. In February 1954, however, the wing began building up again in preparation for an overseas movement, but was inactivated instead on 21 July 1954.
