Operator History
The squadron was first activated at Birmingham Municipal in June 1949, as part of the 514th Troop Carrier Group, 514th Troop Carrier Wing. Its fleet consisted exclusively of Commandos.
Between 1951 and 1953, it served on active duty during Korean War, airlifting US airborne forces, military equipment and supplies as needed. It then trained for and flew airlift missions worldwide. Transition to the C-119 started in 1952, until 1954 when the last Commando was retired.
In April 1966, the squadron became the 337th Military Airlift Squadron.
