Operator History
The 83rd Troop Carrier Squadron, Medium was renamed from 83rd Troop Carrier Squadron in June 1949 during the military buildup leading to the Korean War. The squadron had its origins in World War II, during which it conducted airborne assaults on Normandy, Southern France, Holland, and Germany using Douglas C-47 Skytrains.
From 1949, the squadron converted to the Commando, and its history pretty much follows the one of its parent 437th Troop Carrier Group.
After serving in Japan during the Korean War, the squadron was inactivated on 16 November 1957.
