TYPE: Redesignation
DESCRIPTION: One C-46A aircraft was transferred to NACA (National Advisory Comittee for Aeronautics) to be used for deicing research. To reflect this loan to an outside organization, the prefix 'E' was added to the aircraft designation. The EC-46A was probably heavily modified by NACA, at least by the installation of testing and measuring equipment.
