Commando Operations

During World War II, Marrakech Menara airfield was initially under the control of the Vichy French government. It was taken by the Allies in November 1942 as part of Operation Torch, the invasion of French North Africa. After its capture by Allied forces, it functioned as an Allied military airfield throughout the remainder of the war, as an Air Transport Command airfield on the North African and South Atlantic Routes.

Today, Marrakech Menara remains the city's only airport.
