Operator History
Aerovias Nacionales Quisqueyana was formed with two DC3s in 1962, conducting scheduled passenger and cargo services in direct competition with flag carrier Dominicana. The airline was incorporated as Aerovias Quisqueyana on 13 August 1963. The US CAB granted the airline a permit to operate cargo services to San Juan, PR and Miami, FL in 1966, despite misgivings about the dual US-Dominican nationality of one principal and the US resident status of the other. Two Commandos were added in 1964 and two Constellations in 1967. Plans to operate Commando cargo flights to Miami, FL never materialised, and virtually all US operations were conducted to San Juan, PR. The core business of Quisqueyana became scheduled passenger services to the USA and Europe using the Constellations, and later Boeing 707s, 727s and Convair 880s. When the government suddenly revoked the company's permit to operate passenger flights in May 1978, the company was forced to cease all operations.
Commando Operations
1964* to 1967*
Quisqueyana operated two Commandos from 1964. It later added two more, which were supposed to be deployed as cargo aircraft on the Miami, FL route - however as that route never opened, it is likely that these additional aircraft were never taken up.
Commandos Operated
- Curtiss C-46F Commando: HI-80, HI-138 (probably NTU)
- Riddle C-46R Commando: HI-89
- Other Commandos: HI-77
