The Navy never ordered Commandos directly from Curtiss. However, 120 Commandos received by the USAAF were diverted to the US Marine Corps. These aircraft were given a Navy Bureau Number and redesignated R5C-1. They served mostly in the Pacific. After the war, 10 of them were transferred to the US Coast Guard.
