Operator History

The 78th Ferrying Squadron was activated on 22 February 1943 at Chabua, Assam, India, and assigned to the 22nd Ferrying Group. In April 1943, it moved with its group to Jorhat, and was renamed 78th Transport Group on 1 July 1943. The squadron may have been based temporarily in Sookerating, Assam, India between late 1943 and early 1944, before moving back to Chabua until the end of the war. It flew the route over the "Hump" between Assam and Yunnan to provide much needed supplies to China.
