Congo Government
Operator History
Congo gained independence from Belgium on 30 June 1960. Over the next few days, the new-born country had to face massive civil unrest coupled to several insurgencies in its Kasai and Katanga provinces. The UN dispatched a peacekeeping force to help control the situation. Over the next few years, the Congolese government used foreign help to ensure its military air transport needs.
Commando Operations
1962* to May 1966
The Congolese Government first chartered a Commando from Aerovias Panama between 1962 and 1963.
It later took over the wet-lease contract between ONUC and Transair Sweden in 1963, which involved many additional Commandos. They were operated on its behalf during that period, in support of military operations against various insurgencies in the country.
