Operator History
Air Transport Command's Pacific Division stemmed from the 25th Ferrying Wing, which later became the Pacific Wing in 1942. It was responsible for moving aircraft, personnel and cargo from California to the entire Pacific, with its route network expanding further east as the war progressed. During the war, it was divided in the following wings:
- Central Pacific Wing: Hawaii to Guam, later extending to Okinawa, Japan and Manila, and eventually connecting with the India-China Division in Kunming, Yunnan, China;
- Southwest Pacific Wing: Hawaii to Brisbane, Auckland and New Guinea, later extending to Manila;
- West Coast Wing: Seattle, WA to Elmendorf AAB, AK for aircraft and cargo bound for Alaska and the ALSIB route.
Postwar, on 10 April 1946, the Division was reorganized and split solely between two wings: the Eastern & Western Pacific Wings.
