Operator History

The 19th Troop Carrier Squadron was the 5 July 1942 redesignation of the 19th Transport Squadron that had been operating in Hawaii since 1940. It was assigned to the 7th Air Force for the duration of WWII with an all Douglas C-47 Skytrain fleet. From 1946, the Squadron was briefly assigned to the 403rd Troop Carrier Group, and then to the 374th Troop Carrier Group, still in Hawaii. It was reequipped with the Douglas C-54 Skymaster and Curtiss C-46D Commando that same year. From June 1948, its C-54's were sent to participate in the Berlin Airlift. The Squadron was inactivated on 26 August 1948 after returning to the continental USA at Bergstrom AFB, TX.

The Squadron was reactivated on 10 June 1952 with the Far East Air Force based at Brady AB, Japan, assigned to the 315th Troop Carrier Group, Medium, now operating as a Commando-only unit. As a combat resupply and transport squadron during the Korean War, it provided aerial transportation between Japan and Korea. The Squadron was inactivated on 18 January 1955.
