Operator History
The 71st Troop Carrier Squadron trained at George Field, IL with I TCC on C-46 and C-47 aircraft. It then operated in Europe only with Douglas C-47 Skytrains during World War II, as part of the 434th Troop Carrier Wing.
On 15 March 1947, the unit was reactivated in the reserve at Stout AAF, IN, It was assigned to the 434th Troop Carrier Wing and transitioned to the Commando. Between 1951 and 1953, it was called to active duty to serve during the Korean War. In 1957, the squadron converted to C-119s and the Commandos were retired.
