Operator History

The 4105th AAF Base Unit was established at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ in 1946 to store USAAF aircraft. The unit became USAF's 3040th Aircraft Storage Depot in 1948, and the Arizona Aircraft Storage Squadron in 1956. Its mission was broadened in 1965 as it changed its name to MASDC (Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center), now tasked with processing aircraft for all the US armed forces - not just the USAF. Thus, in February 1965, the US Navy moved over to Davis-Monthan AFB 500 aircraft that it had been storing in its own boneyard at NAS Litchfield Park, AZ.

The squadron held two major auctions on 26 January and 2 March 1965, where most, if not all, of its Commandos were sold off. A major purchaser at these auctions was aircraft & spare parts broker C-46 Parts Inc. of Miami, FL. It does not seem that any Navy Commando stored at NAS Litchfield Park, AZ was tranferred to Davis-Monthan.

In the 1980's, MASDC became AMARC (Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Center) as it started processing intercontinental ballistic missiles. It was renamed AMARG (Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Group) in May 2007 under the 309th Maintenance Wing.
